About the event
About This Training: This is in person training held at Still Yoga in Los Angeles, CA offers 15 hours of in-person training sessions and 5 hours of self-study for anyone who is interested in learning more about how to heal trauma through an evidence based - body centered healing modality called Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). This training helps participants build a trauma informed lens through which they are able to better understand how trauma impacts us both relationally and systematically. This Trauma Sensitive Yoga model (TCTSY) that you will become acquainted with is the first and most thoroughly vetted trauma sensitive yoga model in the world. It is based on decades of research and practice. This training takes an intersectional approach to examine how trauma manifests in the body, mind, relationships, and through systems. Training participants are given a research based approach to understanding trauma informed best practices while also gaining knowledge in how to not recreate and replicate trauma through the TCTSY model. Additionally, trauma informed - body centered movement/yoga, breath, and grounding practices will be explored as a pathway towards healing in the body.
What Does it Mean to be Trauma Informed: To be trauma informed has a few components. One is to know what trauma is. Second is to know how trauma shows up personally, relationally, communally, and systemically. The third part of being trauma informed is to take all of that knowledge and bring it into practice - bring it into our own bodies first. To be trauma informed is to not recreate the dynamics of trauma. This first begins with ourselves and then with those that we are in relationship with. To be trauma informed is an embodied way of living. It’s a practice to interact with first in your own body and then to extend to others.
Who can Attend This Training: Past training participants come from many different personal and professional backgrounds including but not limited to: therapists, social workers, educators, body workers, yoga instructors, health care workers, and many on their own personal healing journeys. Anyone with an interest in learning how to better understand and interact with trauma in an evidence-based and body-centered way.
About TCTSY: TCTSY is a program of the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at the Justice Resource Institute (JRI). It is an empirically validated, evidence-based, adjunctive treatment for complex trauma and complex posttraumatic stress disorder. TCTSY provides an interdisciplinary understanding of trauma based on 20+ years of research. The modality is informed by intersectionality, trauma theory, attachment theory, neuroscience, and yoga to help participants better understand the full impacts of trauma on human life. The training will help participants build an understanding of best practices for trauma-informed care and guidance on trauma-informed movement, breath practices, and navigating challenges that may come up when working with survivors of complex trauma.
Scope of Practice After This Training: This is a foundational training to learn more about the framework and modality that is Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). This training will give participants the tools to integrate a trauma informed lens into the work that they are already doing. For those who take this training, they will be able to offer movement guided by a trauma informed lens. For those who are interested in offering Trauma Sensitive Yoga classes or this modality as a treatment for trauma, additional training is needed in order to meet survivors of trauma with full competence on their healing journey. The Center for Trauma and Embodiment does offer a 300 hour certification (for which this training is a prerequisite) for that purpose and for those who wish to become a facilitator of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga.
