About the event

About This Training: This is an online training that offers 15 hours of in person Zoom training sessions and 5 hours of self-study for anyone with an interest in learning more about how trauma impacts our lives. This training provides a holistic understanding of trauma and the impact that both relational and systemic trauma have on our bodies, minds, relationships, and lives. It also offers an evidence-based body centered modality known as Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) as a way to interact with these impacts. This training is for yoga instructors, mental health clinicians, educators, body workers, social workers, life coaches, and any other care provider or person with an interest in learning how to better understand and interact with trauma in an evidence based way.

About This TCTSY: TCTSY is a program of the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at the Justice Resource Institute (JRI). It is an empirically validated, evidence-based, adjunctive treatment for complex trauma and complex posttraumatic stress disorder. TCTSY provides an interdisciplinary understanding of trauma. The modality is informed by intersectionality, trauma theory, attachment theory, neuroscience, and yoga to help participants better understand the full impacts of trauma on human life. The training will help participants build an understanding of best practices for trauma-informed care and guidance on trauma-informed movement and breath practices. Throughout the weekend participants will build a trauma-informed lens, which isa way of viewing themselves and the world in an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed lens. The hope is that this trauma informed lens provides participants with the groundwork needed to not recreate trauma or trauma dynamics within themselves and those they provide care for. Participants are invited to explore the various ways in which this embodied movement practice (TCTSY), rooted in this trauma informed framework, can be a starting point towards recovery in their own bodies first and then integrated into relational and communal spheres of influence.

Scope of Practice After this Training: This is an introductory training to learn more about the framework and modality that is Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY). This training will give participants the tools to integrate a trauma informed lens into the work that they are already doing. Those who take this training will be able to offer movement guided by a trauma informed lens. For those who are interested in offering Trauma Sensitive Yoga classes or this modality as a treatment for trauma, additional training is needed in order to meet survivors of trauma with full competence on their healing journey. The Center for Trauma and Embodiment does offer a 300 hour certification (for which this training is a prerequisite) for that purpose and for those who wish to become a facilitator of Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga.
